Default i feel we need a new topic

its a little slow here so i've decided to get involved more from now on.

what in the world is that axis thing you have on the site? haha it looks so funny.

anyway, for the topic. i need some kind of tool or anything to stop coming over the top. i've tried every damn thing i can but nothing works. close my stance, close my shoulders, stronger grip. nothing seems to get me to stop. i know this may not be the right forum but i just need something. i tried to take it back straight back and drop inside but i guess that doesn't even work. is there a tool or tip you guys can give?

I'll admit, the putter is not a normal looking thing by today's standards at all. I did putt with it up north a few times but had to tee off so never gave it a chance. If they send me one, I'll give a review on it. Yes they advertise here but the first thing I tell all advertisers...it will be very honest.

Coming over the top is something I even do and I can't fix it. The only thing for me that works is coming outside the line on the take away and re routing coming down. It just makes my wrist sore so I need something else as well but you can't come over the top!

Default Coming over the top

Couple of issues cause coming over the top.
A) Using your upper body to much to swing the club down in a hit motion. (Not swinging)
B) Sliding or moving your head over the top of the ball.
C) Coming out of your spine angle.

One good way to start feeling the correct path is to think about swinging out (NOT hitting the ball too) just right of second base. (Do this slowly to feel the path)
When you swing the club more out and around you on a longer arc it is near impossible to come over the top.
One good visual for sliding or covering the ball would be, once you have gotten to the top of your swing try to not let your left eye (Right handed golfer) get in front of the ball on the way down.
To correct coming out of your spine angle try swinging your club slowly while a chair is behind you. (During the entire swing try to keep a cheek or a hip on the chair)

Like Brad said, you can’t start down hard from the top but rather build speed on the way down.

i always fixed the otp with working on my transition up top. pause that sucker for a good 1 count (seems like 2 decades) and then let the lower body go.

The way I stop coming over the top is going to the range and picking a target way left and aiming way right. It grooves me into making the proper swing. It always comes back in my swing but it seems to be a quick fix for me at least. One thing I would like to know is, have you been fitted for the shaft? Maybe it's too strong for you. Even if it says stiff, it can still be stiffer or weaker. I would go to a shop and see if that could be the case before you start changing things. A lot of people come over the top on tour and they just aim left and cut it back and that's what I do. Yes I lose distance but at least I'm not going OB aiming for a draw or down the middle

Good suggestions in this thread. The taking it outside the line and dropping it in always works for a short quick fix. Nothing is going to work until you put in the time to practice. It can be just hitting a large bucket 3-4 times a week.

I know time is hard to come by these days but if you just keep doing the same swing not caring where the ball goes for a fix, you will eventually get it down.

Even us professionals have to do that every once in awhile. It sucks to see bad results because you think what you're doing is wrong but in golf, you have to get worse before you can get better sometimes.

thanks all. it's kind of getting better as we speak but its still not quite there yet. ive been just trying to hook everything on the range and its slowly getting that over the top move out of my swing. at least not when i do my normal swing its not going way way right, just a big fade. if i can get it to just a fade ill play that for sure.

ill try to get a video up of my swing so you gurus can help me with it in the next few weeks. my camera sux but hopefully it works. thanks!!
